Intellectual Property Management Plan
1. Purpose
This plan is established to protect R&D achievements, enhance market competitiveness, safeguard brand value, and mitigate infringement risks, while deeply integrating intellectual property (IP) management with business objectives. Through systematic management of patents, trademarks, and trade secrets, the Company aims to protect research outcomes, experimental data, and brand equity, ensuring technological innovation and business competitiveness in the global medical device market, and reinforcing sustainable corporate development.
2. Scope
This plan covers the following categories of intellectual property:
Patents (including invention, utility model, and design patents)
Trademarks
Trade secrets
3. Intellectual Property Ownership Principles
Employee Innovations: IP generated by employees during the course of their employment belongs to the Company.
Use of Company Resources: If an employee utilizes the Company’s concepts, knowledge, expertise, equipment, resources, or experience to develop IP, the Company retains the right to implement or use such IP.
Collaborative & Commissioned Research: When collaborating with or commissioning external parties, IP ownership shall be defined by contractual agreement.
4. Patent Management
Strategic Objectives
Protecting Innovations: Focus on patenting critical technologies to safeguard core innovations in medical devices, establish technical barriers, and strengthen market entry advantages.
Respecting Third-Party Rights: The Company respects the intellectual property rights of others and ensures that its R&D and commercial activities do not infringe on third-party IP.
Management Procedures
Proposal: R&D teams evaluate the necessity of patent applications, which are initiated upon managerial approval.
Application: Approved patents are filed domestically and internationally via external patent law firms.
Maintenance and Review: Patent validity is reviewed regularly to ensure continued protection, and patent portfolios are adjusted based on market demand.
5. Trademark Management
Brand Protection
Actively register trademarks for medical device products both locally and internationally to ensure market competitiveness and brand consistency.
Usage Guidelines
Registered trademarks are applied across product packaging, promotional materials, and websites, following the Company’s standardized design and style guide. Unauthorized modifications are prohibited.
6. Trade Secret Management
Access Control and Classification: Documents containing trade secrets are clearly labeled and managed by classification, with restricted access rights.
Information Security: Implement physical access control, encryption technologies, and access logs to protect core technologies and business-sensitive information.
Confidentiality Obligations: All employees are required to sign confidentiality agreements. Obligations continue post-employment and include exit education and declaration forms.
Supplier Management: Business partners (e.g., suppliers, customers) must sign non-disclosure agreements (NDAs) to prevent technology leakage and ensure compliance.
7. Education and Awareness
Employee Training
Conduct regular IP-related training sessions to raise awareness and enhance understanding of intellectual property protection among employees.
Implementation Results
1. Patent Portfolio
Patent coverage spans Taiwan, Japan, China, the EU, and the UK.
As of March 31, 2025, the Company has obtained a total of 73 granted patents globally, including:
Invention patents: 23
Utility model patents: 10
Design patents: 70
Notable recent filings include the second-generation "LAGIS Energy Electrosurgical Suction System" and the "LAGIS Balloon Puncture Trocar".
2. Trademark Protection
Trademark registration efforts focus on Taiwan, the EU, Japan, the UK, South Korea, and South Africa.
As of March 31, 2025, the Company has 139 registered trademarks globally, covering its name, logo, and product line branding, such as:
“LAGIS Port”, “LAGIS Shield”, “LAGIS Path”, “LAGIS Endo”, “LAGIS Retrieval”, “LAGIS Flow”, “LAGIS Energy”.
These are part of the Company's overarching global marketing and branding strategy.
3. Trade Secret Management
2021: Established the “Confidential Information Management Guidelines”, introduced encryption systems, and completed the first inventory of confidential information.
2023: Revised relevant guidelines.
2024: Completed the second inventory of confidential information.
4. Training Activities
2021: “Trademark Protection and Brand Management” seminar, 200 participants.
2022: “Patent Application Process” seminar, 30 participants.
2023: “Trade Secret Protection Practical Guide 3.0” seminar, 180 participants.
